Chicago Early Learning
Home-School Connections
Update for April 15 - 19, 2024
Creative Curriculum
We began the Music Making Study last week. Our focus question was: What instruments can we play by hitting, tapping, or shaking them? We made a list of materials we could use to make homemade instruments. We made homemade shakers during choice time. We began talking about percussion instruments. We learned that percussion instruments can be played by hitting, tapping, or shaking. The small group activities were: practicing writing our names, action patterns, patterns with cubes, and drawing our self-portraits on our journal cover. The read-alouds were: Chrysanthemum, Kindergarten Rocks, Jazz Baby, Hush! First Grade Friends THE CLASS TRIP, and My Five Senses.
Second Step Early Learning Program
Our lesson was Learning in Kindergarten. The Second Step Listening Rules and skills for learning will help us be a better learner in kindergarten. We demonstrated the listening rules, focusing attention, and self-talk.
Field Trip
We enjoyed our trip to the Emily Oaks Nature Center. We explored the Woodland using our senses with our guide, Ms.Abby. Special thanks to our chaperones.
Kindergarten
If you live in the attendance area and your child is attending NPS Kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year, there is no need to register. Your child is already enrolled. However, if you live outside the NPS attendance area, you should contact your neighborhood school, which can be found at CPS School Locator. If your child is not attending a CPS Kindergarten in August, you must transfer your child out. Please see Ms. Ruiz in the school office.
