Frequently Asked Questions
How do I apply for the Pre-K program?
The Pre-K application process is done online at chicagoearlylearning.org. You may choose two sites when you apply. The Office of Early Childhood places students. If you are offered a spot, the school will contact you regarding next steps.
Is there a waiting list?
Yes, there is a waiting list. The school staff does not know your placement on the waiting list. The Office of Early Childhood places students from the waiting list.
Is it a Half-Day or Full-Day Program?
Norwood Park School Pre-K is a Full Day Program, 8:10 am. – 3:10 pm., with no half-day option. 4 year olds are prioritized for full-day programming.
Is there before and after school care?
There is no before or after school care at Norwood Park School for Pre-K students.
Where is drop-off and pick-up?
Pre-K parents and children line up outside Door #1 every morning. Parents sign their child in and say good-bye at the door. For pick-up, parents line up outside Door #1 again. Once a child is signed out, the teacher will send the child out to his/her parent.
Are meals provided?
Pre-K children eat breakfast, lunch, and snack at school. If you prefer, you may send a lunch from home.
Is there a nap time?
We have a quiet time for 30 minutes per day. Your child may choose a cot to nap or choose a quiet activity.
Do the children have recess?
We have outdoor play twice every day. Children should be dressed appropriately for the weather.
What if my child has a bathroom accident?
Parents should send a change of clothes at the beginning of the school year. Pre-K staff cannot change children. Children should practice self-toileting and dressing and undressing before attending Pre-K. If there is a toileting issue the parents and teacher will discuss a plan.

When is the first day of school?
The first day of school for CPS children is Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Pre-K students will follow the regular schedule 8:10 am. – 3:10 pm.
